9 Self-Care Tips For Busy Stay At Home Moms
It’s about four months into the year of 2018. Instead of continuing to make those New Year’s resolution goals that you never actually meet, try to do some better self-care. You are always putting everyone ahead of yourself and get the end of the day (or year) you find yourself feeling tired and unfilled. It’s a creatures habit, that is easy to fall into, especially if you are a busy mom.
Last year was a very interesting year for me. Why do you ask?
I become a MOM!
Not only did I become a mo, but I became a SINGLE MOM…
I had no idea what I was doing…
But last year I accomplished the most I have ever accomplished in my life. I finally had myself pushed to the point of giving up in life. I was burning bridges with people I loved the most because nothing was ever enough to me, and no one was helping me as much as I needed. People could see things the way I had seen things. It was so frustrating walking this planet feeling like it was my son and me against the world.
When it really came down to it, I had to sit in my bed every night disappointed in myself.
How could I have become a single mom at age 23,
I had plenty of money so I was able to stay home with my son,
I had several vehicles and a bike,
I had a beautiful home that was perfect for my son and me,
but yet none of that was good enough for me.
I wasn’t good enough for myself. I had no fulfillment.
I was at a dead end…
How often do you think about taking care of YOU?
Probably not often, like at all.
Everyone else comes first, that is why you are playing the MOM role.
Well, that is about to change because I want to tell you how I got out of my little stump.
I want to share my tips with you so you do not ever have to feel like how I did.
You do not have to follow all of my tips, but I beg you to please take one or two things and add it to your life.
WAYS TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT:
1. Eat breakfast every day.
Skipping breakfast is probably the most unhealthy habit I ever started. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so even if it’s something small… eat breakfast. You’ll have more energy and improved concentration throughout the day. I like eating fruit and smoothies in the morning, although sometimes I will go out to eat and have a full blown breakfast meal.
2. Say “no” more often.
How many times have you found yourself agreeing to something that you really didn’t have time for? If you’re a people pleaser like me, this is going to take some practice. When you lack either the time or ability to do a task correctly, you’re cheating everyone, including yourself. If something doesn’t feel good, say “no.” Sometimes the most toxic events in our day come from situations we can avoid. You are not a bad person for saying no.
3. Read something just for fun.
Something that makes you laugh or tugs at your heartstrings. I do a lot of reading on my website and researching other things to write a new post. But once in awhile I will find a good book, or waste $3.99 on a celebrity magazine and see what the latest drama is. Honestly, a good book and a cup of tea are just what this girl needs.
4. Walk more.
When you start eating healthier than you will feel better when you exercise. I recently started to lift weights, but walking and running have always been my number one choice. Take your kid out and go for a walk. There is even a program called “SweatCoin”, you get paid for every step you take! Go for a walk, enjoy the scenery, get healthier and feel better in the process.
5. Get a planner.
Operating in chaos causes more stress. Good time management is key to better self-care. A calendar, a planner or a to-do list can work. Just take time to develop a system and use it. I’ve started using both a planner and a to-do list, and have a feeling that being better organized is going to be key to my overall well-being in 2018.
6. Take time to breathe and meditate.
Sometimes all you need to restore balance in your day is to take a moment to breathe and clear your head. If you have 5 to 10 minutes to spare, meditate. Just 10 minutes of meditation can help clear stress and anxiety from your day. I love sitting in the middle of the woods, and just breathing in that fresh air, with the greenery around me, listening to the wind, and birds chirp.
7. Snack better.
This should really be snack better and more often where I am concerned. I tend to go much too long without eating and then binge eat at night. A portable on-the-go snack is just what I need. I love snacking on fruits and vegetables. Snacking enjoyment for any time of the day. All good stuff.
8. Shop until you drop.
Yes I mean take some of that money you have been saving and go shopping. Shop for anything and everything you want. Spend one full day and just go mad crazy. Get yourself some new things. You are constantly buying stuff for your little one, this is the time to buy something for yourself!
I have always been a huge fan of this. I love taking care of my skin, my hair, my face, my hands, my feet, literally everything on my body is important to take care of. Do you want those wrinkles when you are older? No? Then start going to get a pedicure once in awhile, do a face mask once a week, get a massage. There are so many things you can do!
